& Hungry Theater to Perform and Record Radio Drama Version of
The Merchant of Venice, June 5 and 7

Thought” Discussion on June 5 Features Talk Back on the Play
and Its Relevance in Contemporary
Society
Lean & Hungry Theater, where readers’ theater meets
radio
drama, will perform and record the Shakespeare classic The Merchant of
Venice live on June 5 and 7 at St. Stephen and the Incarnation
Episcopal Church, 1525 Newton Street, NW, Washington, DC 20010.
Performance times are 8 PM each evening, with a 3 PM matinee on .June
5. General admission tickets are available at the door for $12, or $8
for students, seniors and St. Stephen parishioners. Children under 12
will be admitted free.
The productions and recordings of Lean & Hungry Theater are
endorsed by the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind.
The cast of The Merchant of Venice includes the voices of Frank
Britton, Elizabeth Darby, Frank Dunn, Jessica Hansen, Leigh Jameson, K.
Clare Johnson, Lucas Maloney, Francisco Reinoso, John Tweel, and Alex
Zavistovich.
From 6:30 to 7:30 PM on June 5 immediately before the recording, Lean
& Hungry will present the next in its series of “Food
for
Thought” discussions, focusing on the relevance of The
Merchant
of Venice in literature and contemporary society.
The resident theatre company of St. Stephen and the Incarnation, Lean
& Hungry Theater is the only theater company in the Washington,
DC
metropolitan area dedicated to adapting works of Shakespeare and other
classic playwrights as radio dramas.
Lean & Hungry’s radio drama adaptations of
Shakespeare’s classics are produced as staged readings,
recorded
before a live audience with live sound effects and musical underscore.
