Lean & Hungry Theater Announces
Production Season Through 2011

Winter’s Tale, Measure for Measure, Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Lineup for Radio Drama Acting Company

Washington, DC (June, 2009) Lean & Hungry Theater, where readers’ theater meets radio drama, has selected its seasons through 2011, leading off with A Winter’s Tale in December 2009.

Performing under the auspices of St. Stephen and the Incarnation Epispcopal Church, 1525 Newton Street, NW, Washington, DC 20010, Lean & Hungry Theater produces radio drama adaptations of the great works of Shakespeare. To support the mission of St. Stephen, Lean & Hungry has selected productions that are tied to events in the church calendar:
  • A Winter’s Tale (Advent and Christmas: December 4 and 6, 2009)
  • Measure for Measure (Lent and Easter: Spring 2011)
  • The Merchant of Venice (Pentecost: June 4 and 5, 2010)
  • A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Ordinary Time: June, 2011)
Lean & Hungry’s radio dramas productions are produced as staged readings, recorded before a live audience with live sound effects and musical underscore.

“We’re pleased with this schedule,” said the company’s Artistic Director,  Jessica Hansen. “By tying our performances to the calendar, we will be able to address issues of importance at the time they hold the greatest significance for the church and the community.”

The resident theatre company of St. Stephen and the Incarnation, Lean & Hungry Theater is the only theater company in the Washington, DC metropolitan area dedicated to adapting works of Shakespeare and other classic playwrights as radio dramas.

Lean & Hungry’s company of performers features actors who have taught and appeared with some of the best-known classical theaters in Baltimore and Washington, including The Shakespeare Theatre, Washington Shakespeare Company, the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, The Maryland Shakespeare Festival, the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, and many more.
